Brother Wen from Gansu Province reached out to Al Fitrah Foundation in Shaaban, searching for Braille Qurans for their visually impaired community. We sent two sets to begin with, and they kindly covered the courier cost. Their determination reminded us why we do this work: to support those who need it most.
We later connected them with our partners at BRFP so they could receive more sets quickly and with cheaper shipping. They received those too. Now, by the grace of Allah, we have sent more waqaf copies so that each person will have their own Braille Quran set.
This Ramadan has felt especially meaningful. Knowing that visually impaired brothers and sisters in Gansu can now read and learn the Quran fills us with gratitude. Lanzhou, their region’s capital, is home to many historic mosques, including the well-known South Gate and West Gate Mosques, where countless worshippers gather.
All About Learning the Quran
There are fifteen visually impaired individuals in their community learning the Braille Quran. They began with the Braille Primer and supported one another as they learned basic Arabic Braille.
But with only one Braille Quran to share, studying was difficult. Their hope was simple — that each person could have their own copy to read, recite, and understand at their own pace.
Friendship Across Counties & Districts
These students come from different counties and districts across Gansu Province. They study independently at home yet stay connected as friends who gather to learn together. They receive no financial support. They shared the courier cost for the Qurans and study with sincerity and patience.
In the summers of 2024 and 2025, only three blind Muslims had begun studying the Quran. With limited resources, they learned by copying whatever they could. When more visually impaired individuals from different districts met in October 2025, the need became clear. That was when Brother Wen began searching for Braille Qurans for everyone.
Brother Mike, a qualified Quran teacher from our team, has connected with Brother Wen. They now stay in touch, sharing ideas, useful devices, and Islamic knowledge. Alhamdulillah.
A Connection Made for the Sake of Allah
Brother Wen shared how it all began: “I often browse the international internet. When I learned about the Braille Quran, I told the others. They loved it, so I searched the world for where to find it. That’s how I found Al Fitrah Foundation.”
Before this, they had even asked businesspeople abroad for help, but no one knew where to find Braille Qurans. When the sets finally arrived, they were overjoyed.
Food & More
Lanzhou is famous for its beef noodles. The most authentic taste comes from here and the surrounding Muslim majority areas. In the small county where Brother Wen lives, Muslims make up 97% of the population. The county has around 250,000 people, and many nearby counties share a similar culture and way of life.
A small act of support
We are grateful to play a small part in their journey. May Allah bless their efforts and make the Quran a light for them always. Ameen
